I have a PC running Win 7 with an LG BD player/burner. I recently inserted a BD to view and received an update window telling me I must update PDVD8 in order to view the content of the disc (purchased version of Moneyball). So, I downloaded the patch and installed it, but I am still getting the same result (and same update window like I never updated). I normally don't watch movies on my PC, so I don't know how long this problem has been lingering.

I read the following page, but since I am not PC savvy, I have no idea what it means to mount an ISO with Daemon Lite or remove an ISO with DL. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I'm confused about your description of the problem, and the details in the link you provided.
I know little about Blu-ray drives but if you can tell more so that others who read this have a better picture, it might save some time and confusion. The PC, what make and model?
What is the exact wording of the error message you are seeing? Have you used this Blu-ray drive before to watch BD movies? Have you used that Blu-ray drive for anything else before? It can act as a normal CD/DVD drive and not exclusive to BD disks. (I see you just inserted it, so probably my question is irrelevant). When you inserted, (connected), the drive, was it recognised by Windows? The page you linked to seems to be about a particular problem.
The error message there doesn't match as it was telling the user that 'There is no disc in the disc drive or your disc drive does not support the format of the inserted disc'. The cause there, and one I haven't heard of myself either, was that the user had previously 'Mounted an ISO' using special software called Deamon Tools Lite. An ISO is like a Windows Setup disk you use to install Windows. The ISO is one file, but it contains all the individual files and folders needed to install Windows. Mounting an ISO image simply means creating a virtual CD/DVD ROM drive that Windows can access just like a physical CD/DVD drive. When required, you could use that drive like you would use the disk, without requiring the actual disk. So an ISO drive doesn't exist, it is 'virtual', but Windows treats it as a real CD/DVD drive so the contents can be read as if it was a CD or DVD drive.
I don't believe that applies to you at all unless you have done similar yourself. What I wonder is this. Your PowerDVD software. Is that message telling you that this version of PowerDVD cannot read Blu-ray disks, and so you need to 'Upgrade' to a newer version of PowerDVD?
That's why the full error message is important. Where did you get that patch from? When I get a chance I will include more info. I can quickly tell you my PC is a custom build running Win 7. It is about a year and a half old.
The version of PowerDVD8 that came with the drive is 1.1a. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled it last night and it still prompts me to upgrade by installing a patch. Once I install it and restart, it gives me the same prompt, like I did not install it. I believe this is the first time I have ever tried a BD with it (watching and burning DVDs is not a problem), so for all I know it never worked properly. I will be back with more.

The drive is an LG BD-ROM/DVD Rewriter Today I ran the scenario over and here it is: When inserting the BD and choosing to play with PDVD8, I get a window telling me the following You must update Cyberlink PowerDVD to continue the playback of this content. There is a YES tab and a NO tab. So I clicked YES.
I then get an Information update saying: Player application update Update complete. I then click the play button in the PowerDVD window. I then get the following from the utilities tray: The color scheme has been changed to Windows 7 basic A running program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of Windows. Click here for more information.
