• This page intentionally left blank • A History of Womens Writing in Russia A History of Womens Writing in Russia offers a comprehensive accountof the lives and works of Russias women writers from the MiddleAges to the present. Based on original and archival research, muchof it never published before, this volume forces a re-examinationof many of the traditionally held assumptions about Russianliterature and womens role in the tradition. In setting about theprocess of reintegrating women writers into the history of Russianliterature, contributors have addressed the often surprisingcontexts within which womens writing has been produced.Chapters reveal a flourishing literary tradition where none wasthought to exist, they redraw the map defining Russias literaryperiods, they look at how Russias women writers articulated theirown experience, and they reassess their relationship to thedominant male tradition. The volume is supported by extensivereference features including a bibliography and guide to writersand their works.
